The acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), retired Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Mu’azu has sworn in a new resident electoral commissioner Chukwuemeka Chukwu from Abia state.
It is his first official duty shortly after he took over leadership of the commission on Monday from former acting chairman Mahmood Yakubu.
The re-nominated Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, whose first tenure ended on Monday handed over to Mu’azu, as the acting chairman of the commission, pending his confirmation by the Senate after the resumption of plenary
Retired Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Mu’azu was born on 6th September, 1957 at Gombe, Gombe State.
The new RECs oath of allegiance was performed by INEC Director of Legal, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, before Mu’azu did the swearing in and deployed the the REC to Ebonyi State.
Mu’azu told the REC, “I want to remind you of the essence of the oath in your hand and I have no doubt that you will discharge your duties accordingly.
“You must remember that as a REC, you will be the chief accounting officer for the state your are deployed to.”
On his part, Dr. Chukwu, who was a lecturer at the Faculty of Education, Educational Foundations, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Enugu State, promised to dutifully discharge his duties in the interest of the commission and the country.
